how technology will affect the future of work
Technology has changed how workers in different sectors do their job. Its impact is seen in the way it increases the efficiency and productivity of the workers and also how tasks that could be completed within days or weeks can now be done within minutes or seconds. On the side of communication, an email or a video call can replace the number of hours spend on meetings or letters having to be physically delivered from one place to another. Needless to say, that technology has revolutionized communication as the use of online communication tools is much faster and convenient without the limitation of location.
We are no longer limited to working in areas where we live as we can take jobs anywhere online no matter where we physically reside. What's more? We do not have to drive several miles to work as we can do that in the comfort of our homes or anywhere comfortable. This helps us use the money that was supposed to be spend on fuel for something else.
The down side of this is that, as we advance in technology, some people might end up loosing their jobs because the work that was once required to be done manually can now be done by a machine. Human surgeons were seen to hold very important positions in the medicine industry but now employers might want to consider whether to hire or just use the once available and incorporate the use of robot surgeons. Why hire a surgeon when a robot can do it better? Plus, apart from the money spent on coming up with that operating robot, there is no other expenses where as a surgeon(human) needs to be paid weekly or monthly and, compared to machines, humans make a lot of mistakes.
